Nicole won a sprint for
6th place in a group of 4 containing former World Champions
Judith Arndt and Susanne Ljungskog, along with Theresa Senff.
Nicole's Univega-Raleigh-Lifeforce team mate
Christiane Soeder was just beaten to the line by Mirjam Melchers
who won the event for the second year in a row.
Both were in a break after 65km which eventually disintegrated.
Melchers also dropped Soeder for a while causing a reaction
from Nicole in the group behind leading to a chasing group.
Christiane though rejoined the eventual winner after the top
of the last really decisive climb, the Grammont.
In the chasing group there were several attacks chased down
by Nicole before 3 riders got away.
A crash in the race brought down current World Cup Champion
Oenone Wood. She finished 7 and a half minutes down.
Ina Teutenberg finished 11th to pick up ten points and stay
top of the World Cup series rankings with 120 after 3 races.
Wood is 8th on 50m points, Nicole is 10th (42 points) after
picking up 18 for her 6th place. |

"It
was great to be racing back in Europe with such a special
atmosphere. Although the weather was pretty grim before
the start there were around a thousand people in the square
for the presentation. There were also loads of fans on the
climbs, with lots of Brits, so thanks for the cheers!
As for the race with Christiane and Mirjam Melchers up front
it was up to T-Mobile and Nurnberg to chase, and they didn't
have the fire power to close the gap. Had they done so then
I could maybe have challenged for the win, but I'm really
happy for Christiane to get such a good result as she worked
really hard for it.
It's all pretty close in the overall standings, and there's
still a long way to go with 9 rounds left."
