Nicole began the defence
of her World Cup title in perfect style, outsprinting former
World Cup winner Oenone Wood after a late break.
On a wet day Raleigh Lifeforce Creation
rider Sarah Düster was part of an 11 strong group that
built up a 3 minute lead early in the race.
The bunch eventually closed the gap with T-Mobile working
hard to reel in the break for for their sprinters, and once
the race came together, launched Oenone Wood. Nicole went
with the Australian, but they were unable to get a gap.
Eventually Nicole forced the decisive move on the final
climb five kilometres out, taking Wood and another Australian
Nikki Egyed with her. Clearly the strongest rider of the
day Nicole then took the sprint to take an early lead in
the season long race, and make it two wins out of two in
the first week of the season.

"This
is possibly the finest win of my career. It was a a really
tough race, but I was really really happy with the way we
handled it."
"Sarah got in the break, and then when it all came
back together I was fresh enough to try a few attacks. The
first couple didn't work, but I just had to keep on beleiving,
and keep on trying. To hold off the bunch and outsprint
Oenone who's a great finisher was such a great feeling,
and to start the season in this fashion is fantastic!"
