With the race for
the 20007 World Cup title a two rider challenge between
Nicole and second placed Marianne Vos Raleigh Lifeforce
Creation took the opportunity to get another rider
in what proved to be the decisive break.
They'd already tried with an early break launched by Raleigh's
Nikki Egyed which lasted for 60 kilometres, and once that
was reeled in Karin Thürig and Chantal Beltman jumped
clear with 50km to go. The lead quickly grew to over two
minutes, and with no organised chase continued to grow.
Beltman was able to go clear on her own to win by half a
minute, with Vos finishing 10th and Nicole 12th around 3
minutes back.
The result means Nicole has a 51 point lead with two of
the series nine races remaining.
"It was a great race for Raleigh Lifeforce
Creation, a great team performance all round,"
enthused Nicole.
"We achieved our two aims, which were to get a rider
on the podium - Karin did a great job getting second place
- and I was able to maintain my lead in the World Cup."
