September After 3 days racing in France Nicole returned home to Switzerland to follow a specific programme in the build up to the defence of her title in Mondrisio. The World Championship course is near to her home in Lugano. Nicole rode 3 of the 6 stages at the Tour of Ardeche,
a race where she won a stage and the points jersey in 2008.

August 4th on Stage 4, Nicole was 8th on the final
stage. She finished 6th overall, 35 seconds behind Diana Ziliute who claimed
the winners "Maillot d'Or" with three stage victories. "I was ready to do a good sprint and at least get a measure of where I am with my sprinting and I'm really disappointed that as I punctured with a kilometre to go I couldn't even contest the sprint. Normally I want to give my best but on this occasion I couldn't because of a mechanical, but at least I was there and got something for the hard work I'd put in anyway." "It was a tough day, and there were winds, though I think the climbs were the most decisive factor. I knew I had been closing on Emma but I also knew that I had to measure my effort on the course. Despite the frustration of the finish I feel my form is quite good at the moment which is pleasing."

July NIcole finished the first three days of the six stage race, before making the wise choice not to continue. "I caught a virus which totally knocked me down and my legs went from feeling great and raring to go, to feeling like jelly with no power left anymore. I pulled out of the Thuringen Tour in Germany and knew that it was important to begin recovery straight away. After a very easy week I have begun to feel better and started riding again. It is a very important to make sure I am healthy and ready to start training again as now is the time when my preparation for the World Champs begins. "

| June The leading trio took turns attacking each other on the finishing circuit, but it all came down to a super fast downhill sprint in the town centre where Nicole made it 10 wins in 11 years of racing the British Championship. Armitstead took second place but the silver medal was given to Pooley and the bronze to Williamson because Armistead was instead awarded the Under 23 Championship victory. “That win feels very special just like the first time. It was an incredible race today with the home crowd so definitely a very special one for number 10.” “It was a beautiful course today and a really good finish. Emma made a hard attack on the first lap and it was good to see what form she had in her legs at that point. I was really happy with the game plan I chose today.” “All of us had had a go at trying to attack in the finale and then it was coming down to a sprint, and I have had some quite good sprint finishes in the last few weeks so I was feeling confident going into it. I just knew, if I went at the right time and didn’t make any mistakes, it would be a really good finish.” “Vision 1 has had a really good few weeks. We have got a really good spirit in Vision 1 and things are building up and we have the momentum going now which is really incredible for such a small team in its first year.” "It's a special jersey and there is a lot of prestige
which goes with being the British champion. To win it again this year
will be just as special as winning it the first time." For details of the event click bcf website.
